News from the Diocese

Months mind Mass
The months mind of Sr. Mary James Thrappel was kept on 2nd September at St. Mary’s Junior Block by the PDDM sisters, along with some of their well wishers and friends. The concelebrated Holy Eucharist was presided over by Most Rev. Felix Toppo, S.J.  During the sharing that followed many observed that Sr. James lived her religious life faithfully to the end. She was indeed an inspiration for all who met her.
St. Joseph’s School Golmuri
St Joseph’s school Golmuri celebrated the ‘Teachers’ Day’, on the 4th September. It was the apt occasion to congratulate sr. Marie Therese, who is the principle of the school for getting the best Hindi school’s award.
Sacred Heart School, Adra
The School celebrated the ‘Teachers’ Day’ on the 4th September with much fervour. However, it was on 5th September that the parish community celebrated the teachers’ day. Rev. Fr. Augustine was the main celebrant at the Mass organised specially for the occasion. After the Mass the parishioners felicitated the teachers working in the Sacred Heart School and elsewhere.
St. Mary’s Omra
St. Mary’s Parish found itself bubbling with joy on August 4th as they celebrated the feast of St. Mary Vianney. After the Mass, children put up a cultural programme. This was followed by the day-long football matches in which different teams from different places added colour to the day. Independence Day celebrations were marked by parades, drills, elocutions and dances organised by students. The Feast of St. Monica was celebrated as the ‘Mother’s Day’ with a day-long retreat, confessions and Mass led by the Rector of the Vianney Niwas, Fr. Ajay Tiru. 210 mothers benefited from this. The culmination of the celebration was a cultural extravaganza and ‘Bhoj’ (Br. Mukesh).
St. Mary’s English School, Bistupur
On the occasion of the Feast of the Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary, the patroness of the school, St. Mary’s School, Bistupur, arranged a gathering of friends and well-wishers of the school. A large number of Priests, Brothers, Sisters, Teachers and well wishes joined the celebration.
St. Joseph’s Cathedral
The Feast of the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the commemoration of the feast of Veilankanni was celebrated in a big way in the parish. Rev. Fr. Amatus Kujur presided over the concelebrated Holy Eucharist. The inspiring homily of Fr. Amatus was well appreciated. The celebration began with a solemn procession and ended with an agape. The two Mass centres of the Cathedral too had their own celebrations.
St. Mary’s Church, Bistupur
The Feast of the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the commemoration of the feast of Veilankanni was celebrated in a big way in the parish. Rev. Fr. Raphael Monteiro was the main celebrant of the concelebrated Solemn Eucharist. Rev. Fr. Raphael Monteiro’s thought provoking homily touched many. Unlike in the past years the entire parish community came together to celebrated the feast and as a sign of fellowship had a festal meal after the Holy Eucharist.
Sacred Heart Church, Adra
The Feast of the nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary and the commemoration of the feast of Veilankanni was celebrated in a very solemn way in the parish. Rev. Fr. Valerian Lobo was the main celebrant of the concelebrated Solemn Eucharist. Rev. Fr. Valerian Lobo in his homily spoke about the Divine Mother extensively and also narrated some life experiences.
On 26th September, the St. Vincent De Paul Society celebrated the feast of their patron, St. Vincent. The members of the Society had prepared themselves for the feast by an hour of adoration and receiving the sacrament of reconciliation, on the previous day. They, on Sunday, began the day with a solemn Eucharist and the remaining time was spent with the inmates of St. Vincent’s Ashram, Adra.
St. Barbara Church, Mosaboni
The feast of the Nativity of Our Lady of Veilankanni was celebrated with traditional ghetto with nine days of Novena and Mass. Different priests from Jamshedpur diocese satisfied the spiritual quest of the people. Fr. Edwin prepared the people for a good confession on the eighth day. Fr. Alphonse was the main celebrant on the feast day, while Frs. George and Raju concelebrated with him. Fr. Raju preached an inspiring homily. The following day was the birthday of the parish priest. He celebrated it with a solemn Eucharist along with the parishioners. Mr. Ephreme Kispotta, had a short visit to the Parish to evaluate the Church Building for a major repair work. He gauged the building and returned home not without relishing a delicious ‘Masaale Dose’.
Bilocation of the Parish Priest of the Diocese
We have heard of the saints like Pade Pio, St Francis of Assisi, and others having the gift of bilocation. It is not exactly the same here. On 9th September Prabhat Khabar published the report of the Feast of Our Lady of Vailankanni celebrated in various churches of Jamshedpur. In the report, it is mistakenly printed the name of Fr. Amatus Kujur as the main celebrant of the Mass on the 8th in the Cathedral Church and St. Mary’s Church simultaneously. This implies that, for the reporter, he is found in two places simultaneously. In reality, Fr. Raphael Monteiro, the parish Priest of Charbandia Parish was the main celebrant and preached a mind refreshing homily on the occasion, while in the Cathedral, Fr. Amatus was the Main celebrant. Earlier, on the occasion of the feast of St. Dominic, Fr. Harixon OP, the in-charge of  Prarthanalaya, while thanking the priests gathered, christened Fr. Amatus as the ‘Parish Priest of the Diocese’ instead of saying, ‘the parish priest of the Cathedral’. Lo and behold, the cathedral belongs to the diocese and therefore, he is the parish priest of the diocese. Alright!

On the 17th September the parish celebrated it patron’s Feast. In addition, on the 19th evening the parish arranged a dinner for the selected guests, priests and religious of the Jamshedpur Deanery. St. Joseph’s Church, Charbandia
St. Joseph’s Church is gearing up towards the grand celebration of the Platinum Jubilee. The Parish Clergy along with the parishioners have decided to celebrate it quite differently than other institutions. All along the year they had different programmes such as, day of youth, day of Mahila Sangh, Retreats, strengthening of Christian faith by means of Basic Christian Communities, village Masses, Sermons, Catechism for different people in various capacities, strengthening and motivating the catechists by means of training, exposures etc. The presbytery, which had not seen a fresh coat of paint ever since its construction, is with a new-fangled look. The well decorated bride Parish is awaiting your presence on 27th of October for the grand celebration. The Jubilee Celebration will begin with a solemn Eucharist, followed by cultural programmes and meals for all.
Fr. Raphael reports that, on the night of 12th September, there was a fatal thunderbolt that struck the campus, in spite of having had a new lightning conductor installed, damaging thousands of rupees worth Electric gadgets such as New Inverter installed a couple of months ago, fans, TV, Refrigerator, Mobile phone etc.
Sini & Seraikella
The new Parish Priest is back after his medical treatment. Now he is on regular visits to the Mass centres, to revive the faith of the people. On 8th September, the Sini Parish, Our lady of nativity Church, celebrated it’s Feast. Rev. Fr. Paul Mathew S.J., the priest in charge of Khuntpani, was the Main Celebrant of the Solemn Eucharist. On Sunday 19 September, there were some unexpected guests for Fr. Herman Tigga at Shanti Bhavan, Varanasi. They were, Frs. Edwin, Camil, John Ottaplakal and Raju. Earlier, Frs. Gerry and Prabhu have had a pastoral visit to him. He says, “What ever I am is by the grace of God. He has touched me and healed me. Praised be the name of the Lord.” Herman was busy in decorating the house for the feast of St. Mathew, the Evangelist. He was indeed happy to show the beautiful garden filled with varieties of vegetables and tapioca, the fruit of his labour. He has passed on a basket full of greetings to all the friends in Jamshedpur.

Spiritual Renewal
In his Encyclical, ‘Evangelica Testificatio’ Pope Paul VI regarding the spiritual renewal writes, “How could you fail to desire to know better Him whom you love and whom you wish to make manifest to men? It is prayer that unites you to Him. If you have lost the taste for prayer, you will regain the desire for it by returning humbly to its practice. Do not forget, moreover, the witness of history: faithfulness to prayer or its abandonment are the test of the vitality or decadence of the religious life.” Following the urge to be united with the Master, many of our priests are spending enough time in retreats in various places. Fr. Gautham S.J is very happy, that quite many of our priests have reserved their seat in Upasana, Mango. Fr. Prabhu by preaching a retreat for priests in Nav Sadhana, Varanasi renewed himself.
