NEWS FROM THE DIOCESE

Telco Parish

At the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Telco, on 1st August, during a Solemn Eucharistic celebration, 12 girls and 21 boys received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Among these 33 children, 30 were from Little Flower School, Telco. The melodious singing of the children created a heavenly atmosphere.

Feast of St. Ignatius Loyola

On the occasion of the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Fathers and Brothers of Loyola School organized a gathering of Priests and Religious on 1st August, 2010, at Loyola Hall. Large number of Priests and Religious gathered to rejoice and thank God for the gift of St. Ignatius of Loyola to humanity.

Recollection for Priests

The priests of the diocese came together for recollection on 2nd and 3rd August, 2010, at Upasana, Mango, in preparation for the feast of St. John Mary Vianney, patron saint of Priests. Fr. Amatus Kujur led the sessions, and explained in detail about who a pastor is and about the need of pastoral clergy in the society. He spoke from his experience, and that radiated its effect amongst the clergy.

St. Joseph’s Community College, Golmuri

St. Joseph’s Community College celebrated its 1st anniversary of its inauguration and convocation day on 3rd August 2010. Most Rev. Dr. Felix Toppo, S.J. Bishop of Jamshedpur, Dr. Benny Ekka, Vice Chancellor of Kolhan University, and Dr. Xavier Alphonse, Director of ICRDCE were present for the same. The cultural programme added colour to the ceremony during which 23 students from St. Joseph’s Community College received Certificate of Completion for the Diploma and Certificate programmes from the Vice Chancellor of Kolhan University. SJWC students also received their Certificate of Completion from the Director of ICRDCE, Chennai. During the function, Ms. Mary Katrina Khalko was awarded as the Best Student and Mrs. Vanitha B. received the award for the Best Teacher. On completion of the college’s one-year journey, the President of the Community College, Rt. Rev. Dr. Felix Toppo, S.J. released a Souvenir. The Director of ICRDCE, Dr. X. Alphonse briefed about Community College in India and its present situation.

The Principal of Community College Sr. Miriam Gonsalves in her report said, “Out of 28 students, 20 students of Community College are getting job placements in various concerns, 3 students are going for further studies and 5 students will continue internship for two more months and will be later placed in a job.” Further, she added, “few more certificate programmes in A/C & Refrigeration Mechanic, House Wiring, House Keeping and mobile repairing will be started from 16th August 2010 free of cost, only for school dropouts under Community College”.

Finally, the Director of the Institution, Fr. Michael Raj, announced that a new venture will be started soon to bring Railway Platform children to the mainstream through moral education and skill training.

The Active Loyolians of Taldanga

On the occasion of the feast of St. Ignatius Loyola, students of classes VI to XII and all the teachers went on a procession with the message ‘Education for All.’ Children had prepared banners and posters, which they carried with them in the procession. The Junior Section celebrated the day with various competitions.

A few selected students from classes VIII, IX, X and XII were trained and sent to local houses to interview them on the awareness of education in the locality and how far Loyola School has succeeded in bring about that awareness. They prepared reports on this and presented them on 31st July during the cultural programme.

Other Activities: A Book Fair was arranged for the students on 6th and 7th August. Loyolians (VI to X) paid a humble tribute to Tagore on 13th August, by reciting his poems. The Patriotic Song Competition (House – wise) was also held on the same day. Loyolians celebrated India’s 64th Independence Day in a grand way. The OC of Chirkunda Thana, Mr. Rajendra Das, was the Chief Guest; he hoisted the National Flag and later delivered an inspiring speech.

Feast of St. John Mary Vianney

In order to share the joy of the Feast of St. John Mary Vianney and the first convocation of the St. Joseph’s Community College, an agape was arranged on the evening of 3rd August at Curia conference hall. Priests and religious of the diocese shared the joy.

Feast of St. Dominic

Friars of the Order of Preachers, commonly known as Dominicans, celebrated the feast of their founder St. Dominic’s Feast on 8th August. Fr. C.R. Prabhu was the Main Celebrant at the concelebrated Holy Eucharist. Rev. Fr. Vernon D’Souza, enlightened the assembly through his homily.

C.R. Prabhu bailed out

Fr. C.R. Prabhu had to go to Ranchi District Court on 13th of August for a hearing in connection with the ‘Nemha Bible’ issue. He and the others who were booked under criminal case were granted bail by the Judge.

Parish Day Celebrations

St. Marys Church, Bistupur, had a threefold celebration: feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Parish Day and the 64th Independence Day of India. Most Rev. Felix Toppo S.J., was the Main Celebrant at the concelebrated Holy Eucharist, after which there was a cultural programme to satisfy the minds & hearts, and a grand meal to satisfy the stomach.

Siadih

The parishioners along with priests celebrated the feast of St. John Mary Vianney with a Solemn Holy Eucharist and cultural programme, which was prepared by the school children. On this occasion, they felicitated their Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Michael Jojo. They also had hockey and food ball matches on the occasion.

On the occasion of the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Nation’s Independence Day, the Catholic Sabha and the Youth jointly arranged a grand Hockey tournament from 14th to 19th August. Over 50 teams took part in this.

The Year of the Priests

On 19th August Fr. Camille Hembrom and Fr. Fabian Bhuinyan jointly organised a programme to mark the closing of the Year of Priests in Chaibasa Deanary, at Divya Bharti. Most Rev. Felix Toppo, S.J. gave a talk on the theme “If you want to my disciples, take up your cross and follow me,” after which he presided over the Solemn Eucharist. Students from St. Xavier’s Girl’s School felicitated the priests by giving them flowers. They also put up a small cultural programme on the occasion.

MC Sisters Celebrate Feast

On 21st August, M.C. Sisters celebrated their Society’s Titular Feast, the Queenship of Mary. Most Rev. Felix Toppo, S.J. was the main celebrant at Bradwari and at Baihatu. He spoke about the divine plan and the divine intervention in Mother’s life. A good number of priests, religious, lay M.C.s and well-wishers were present for the celebrations.

Dedication of the Alter at Mercy Chapel

A newly built altar has been dedicated at the Mercy Chapel on the 22nd August during a solemn Eucharistic celebration. Most Rev. Felix Toppo, S.J. during his homily said that this altar would remind us about the Old Testament sacrifices and the Supreme Sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross, which is the culmination of all sacrifices.

Mosaboni

The Mosaboni parish celebrated Mother’s day on the 22nd August. Fr. Raju Felix Crasta celebrated the Holy Eucharist. On the previous day, he had nourished them spiritually by his inspiring talks, confession and adoration. The youth and children of the parish felicitated the mothers and thanked them for their love and concern towards children and the family.

Kiriburu

Under the banner of the parish, the Fathers in Kriribiru parish have started spoken English classes for the people around. About 35 people are making use of this opportunity.

The parish celebrated the Mothers Day. Fr. Suresh Xaxa arranged a day of recollection for the mothers in the parish for a better and meaningful celebration of day. There was a very good response, and the mothers benefited from the day of prayer.

Fr. Gyan meets Cardinal Toppo

Rev. Fr. Gyan Prakash Topno had the honour of meeting His Eminence Telesphore Cardinal Toppo, who was on a visit to North America. His eminence had received an invitation by Senator Kinsella, to explain about his dream project, a medical college in Ranchi, to the people interested in assisting India.

Birth Centenary Celebration

On the 26th August, St. Joseph’s cathedral, Golmuri arranged a programme in St. Joseph’s Welfare Centre, to commemorate the birth centenary of Blessed Teresa of Kolkata. Mr. Tarun Daga, the Managing Director of Tinplate Company India Ltd, was the Chief Guest and Most Rev. Felix Toppo, S.J. was the Guest of Honour. Dr. Mrs.B.R. Master, the Head of Tata Meherbai Cancer Hospital, Mr. Mansur Ali, President of Juma Masjid, Sackhi, Rev. Felix Toppo and Mr. Tarun Daga shared their knowledge and views on Blessed Teresa of Kolkata. The students from Gyan Deep Vidyalaya, Birsanagar, St. Mary’s English School, Bistupur and Little Flower School, Telco added colour to the programme by their gracious performance.

Congratulations!

We congratulate Sr. Jessy SCJM, as she celebrates her Silver Jubilee of her religious commitment. During these 25 years, she has in various capacities rendered her service to the society. For the last several years she is working as the administrator of the Mercy Hospital, Baridih.

Dhanbad

St. Anthony’s Church, Dhanbad celebrated Mother’s day on the 29th August. Fr. Raju Felix Crasta celebrated the Holy Eucharist. After the Holy Mass, to the women gathered at the Parish hall, Ms. Jyothi Kachhap spoke about the role of women in the society. After which Rev. Fr. Raju Felix Crasta spoke about the role of Family & Youth in the society and the role of women in building up of the Family and in the formation of youth. On the previous day, he had nourished them spiritually by his inspiring talks, confession and adoration.

Golmuri

St. Joseph’s Cathedral Parish celebrated Mother’s day on the 29th August, at Mercy Chapel. Fr. Kapil Xaxa, S.J. led the sessions. He nourished them spiritually by his inspiring talks, confession and adoration. The response to this programme was very good.

Obituary

Sr. James Tharappel, PDDM went to the Heavenly abode on 02nd August, 2010 in Bangalore. She was the pioneer community member and Superior of the Convent at St. Mary’s English School premises, Jamshedpur. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to her family members and to her congregation.

Mr. Philip Tigga, Brother of Fr. Cyril Tigga S.J went to the Heavenly abode on 23rd August, 2010 at his residence. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Fr. Cyril Tigga and to the family members.
