JULY -2011

Kiriburu
PARISH-DAY: St. Joseph’s Church, Kiriburu, celebrated it’s Parish-Day, on the 29th of June. Rev. Fr. C.R. Prabhu, V.G. of Jamshedpur Diocese, was the main celebrant of the concelebrated Holy Eucharist. The first Holy Communion of the six children from the parish doubled the joy of the day. The choir, under the able guidance of Fr. Santhosh D’Souza, made the liturgy beautiful. After the Holy Mass, the people gathered for a cultural programme and then for a common meal.
GENEROSITY: In the month of May, the parishioners of St. Joseph’s Church, Kiriburu, showed their generosity and concern for the poor and the marginalized, by giving one quintal of rice, which they collected during the offertory (syrini chaval), to the Missionaries of Charity Sisters at Baihatu.
YOUTH CAMP: The youth of Kiriburu, along with the Parish Priest and assistant Parish Priest organized a, two day Seminar for the Youth of the Parish. Rev. Fr. Leo John D’Souza and fr. Simplicious Khess, OP, were the resource persons. The topics dealt with, were “self awareness” and “leadership qualities”. With the participation of above 50 youth, there was an excellent response from the parish for the camp.

Months mind Mass
A Holy Eucharist was celebrated on 14th June, 2011, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Bhilai Phahari, for late Rev. Fr. Edward Kongari. Rev. Fr. Immanuel Horo presided over the concelebrated Holy Eucharist. Fathers form Bishop’s House, Vianney Niwas and St. Robert’s Church, Parsudih were present for the Eucharist along with close family members. Fr. Manu said how simple and exemplary was Fr. Knogari and how he was a role model for many. We continually pray for his soul and for the dear and near ones, who are grieving for him.

First Profession
Nine Novices, 4 for Jamshedpur and 5 for M.P. Jesuit Provinces, made their First and Perpetual Profession, on the 21st June, of the feat of St. Aloysius Gonzaga, the youngest saint of the Jesuit Family. The ceremony began with the concelebrated Holy Eucharist, which was presided over by Rev. Fr. Michael Tanaraj, SJ, the Provincial of Jamshedpur Jesuit Province. To witness this happy and grace filled event, along with the Jesuit Priests and Brothers, were many clergy and religious from different parts of the city, too were present. With a short felicitation programme and a sumptuous dinner brought a joyful close to the event.

Diocesan Mahila Sangh
On 18th and 19th June, 2011, a Diocesan level meeting of the Catholic Mahila Sangh was held at Loyola School, Jamshedpur. In spite of the bad weather and the lack public transport, more than 110 women attended this meeting and showed how active and energetic they are. There was a large representation from the village parishes of the Diocese. We could see mothers with little children, were actively participating in the meeting. We congratulate the members of the Mahila Sangh for their active participation which made the meet a successful one.

St. Joseph’s Community College
St. Joseph’s Community College organized, a “Community College’s Meet” of all the community colleges of Jharkhand. The meet took place on the 18th and 19th of June, 2011. A total of nine colleges with 214 students and 28 staffs participated in it. The programme began with welcome song and welcome speech. Then the directors of each college introduced about themselves and about the college, programmes conducted/offered in the college and about the education system. 18th Saturday, after 2 pm, the students staged a colourful cultural programme. This brought to light the immense talents and the potency which these students have. On 19th Sunday the activities began with Holy Eucharist. Then the formal inauguration of the meet took place. Mr. James Davis, chief guest and the resource person, in his inaugural address said that we are not less than others. As resource person Mr. James Davis gave classes and conducted workshops. He also inaugurated the Community College Exhibition. All the participants benefited and enjoyed the meet. The directors and the staffs had a separate meeting and Rev. Fr. Michael Raj was elected as president of Community Colleges’ Association, Jharkhand. During this meet the students of St. Joseph’s Community College, Golmuri, gave their full participation and unreserved cooperation. The meet ended with the College Anthem.
On 22nd June, 2011, 33 Vocational Training Students of St. Joseph’s Community College received the Course Completion Certificates from the hands of Mr. Atul Kumar (AGM Telcon). The programme began with welcome song by the students and welcome speech by Fr. Michael Raj. A prayer dance and yoga demo too was staged by the students. The chief Guest, Mr. Atul Kumar, in his address encouraged and motivated the students who were present. Mr. Henry Sarkey proposed the vote of thanks and congratulated all those who have worked selflessly, to make this programme a successful one. The programme came to its completion with the College Anthem.

Golden Jubilee Core Team Meeting
A meeting of the Diocesan Golden Jubilee Core Team was held at Bishop’s House on 23rdJune, 2011. 18 member of the core team participated in it and evaluated the progress of the preparations for the inauguration and the year long programmes that were planned during the previous meeting. During the meeting Bishop and V.G. exhorted the members to work for the success of the Jubilee programmes wholeheartedly.

Sini-Seraikella
OUR LADY OF NATIVITY CHURCH, SINI: The Parish Priest has come back to the place after a short home visit. Rev. Fr. Vincent Minj, MSFS, has joined the Sini Parish Community. In the month of May, about 70 people from Sini attended a Charismatic Retreat at Potta, Kerala. Thanks to Sr. Jessy Francis, ASMI, for organizing the Trip. The construction of the new residence cum multipurpose hall is in its last stage.
ASMI CONVENT: Srs. Lellis and Kusum are transferred from the community, to U.P and to Chhattisgarh, respectively. We express our sincere thanks to both the sisters for the selfless service which they rendered to St. Xavier’s Parish and School, Sini. We cordially welcome Srs. Mary Francis & Jema to Sini. The sisters are happy and thank God for Sr. Sebastiana Mary, who is the newly elected Mother General of the Congregation. At present, the two Chapter delegates are preparing themselves to attend the Provincial Chapter in Bhopal.
SERAIKELLA: St. Francis De Sales School organized a one day orientation programme for its staff on 13th June. The sections were animated by Mr. A.P. Singh from Ghatshila. This year there was rather a great rush for admissions to the Pre-Primary and Primary sections. We gratefully acknowledge and thank the staff for their dedication and service. The School is still in its pursuit to attain its needed permissions and recognition form the State Government. We are happy to share the news of the election and the appointment of Rev. Fr. Jacob Karamakuziyil, MSFS as the new Provincial of Nagpur Province
DSFS CONVENT: The Sisters completed one year of their stay at Seraikella on 4th June. Mother Corada & Sr. Provincial congratulated the sisters on this occasion. At present they are in look out for a piece of land to establish Convent at Seraikella. (Fr. Shijumon Mangalath, msfs)

LFS, Telco
On 25th June, 2011, the students of Little Flower School, Telco, staged a play, titled “St. Therese of Lisieux”. The play depicted the life history of Little Flower, who is the Patron Saint of the School. Most Rev. Felix Toppo, SJ was the chief guest of the function. The play staged, as past of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the School, was well appreciated by all. We congratulate the staff and students who made it a grand success.
BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT: On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Little Flower School, Telco, the School organized an inter school basketball tournament. Different schools from the city participated in the tournament.

Catholic Charities
On the 27th June, the clergy and religious of the city gathered at Catholic Charities to celebrate and share the joy of Fr. Halan Bodra’s Birthday, which was on the 16th June. The friends gathered, sang for him and wished him, many more years to come. The small gathering ended with delicious meal.

Divya Bharati
The activities that had taken place in the month of June at Divya Bharati had an added flavor of the presence of the Sch. Manohar kindo and Deepak Sanjay, who are students of Theology, a Ranchi. They conducted a Marriage Preparation Course from 4th – 8th June. Later from 13th – 17th June, under the guidance and support of Br. Benedict they conducted a three day training section for the Catechists and Lay Leaders. The centre conducted a training programme for the Krus Vir Animators on the 25th and 26th of June. Fr. Sanjay Kujur, CSsR, helped out as the resource person for this.

Health Bulletin
On 25th June, 2011, Br. Maria Charles had a fall from the roof of the Parsudih Parish outhouse. He was first taken to Mercy Hospital, Baradih and then referred to TMH. After a thorough investigation, Doctors have clarified that he has no internal injury. However he has to take rest and to ware a cervical collar, for two weeks. He had gone up to the roof, to do some minor repair works.
Fr. James Quadros (Dhadu) had come to Jamshedpur, with chest pain, doubting whether it is caused by Heart Problem. He had a thorough check-up at Brahmananda Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital, Tamolia, Jamshedpur, and has confirmed that he is perfectly well. Now, he is back at Manoharpur with a joy filled Heart.
Fr. Edward Saldanha has come back to Kumardhobi, after having been undergone a surgery at Fr. Mullers Hospital, Magalore, in the month of May. Since he has undergone surgery twice, because of hernia, along with him we all hope and pray for a stable and good health.

Heartfelt Condolences
Mr. Varghese, father of Sr. Therese, CMC, St. Theresa’s Convent, Jinkpani, has passed away on 14th May, 2011. We express our heartfelt condolences to Sr. Therese and to the bereaved family members.

Change in Personals
During the summer holidays some of the following members have gone elsewhere out of our Diocese to serve the Lord in various capacities. However others have come to replace them. We wholeheartedly welcome all those who have come in to the Diocese and thank those who have gone out from the Diocese, and wish our Lord’s abundant Blessings in their new area of mission.
