NEWS FROM THE DIOCESE
ST. MARK’S CHURCH, TOKLO
A hostel for the students staying at St. Mark’s Church, Toklo was a basic need to give better accommodation. It was successfully built and blessed on 28th of April, 2013 by Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. in the presence of many Fathers, Sister, faithful and Hostel children. The M.P. of the of the area Mr. Lakshman Gilua was present for the function who inaugurated the hostel building by cutting the ribbon. He also gave a short inspiring message to the students and wished them a bright future.

The joy of this achievement was celebrated with a short entertainment programme presented by schools children from Siadih, Burigora, Goilkera, Khuntpani and Toklo which was enjoyed by all. Congratulation to Fr. Jondko Kandeyang!

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE CHURCH, TELCO
On the eve of 04th May, 2013 a large number of priests and nuns gathered at Lupita Hall, Tolco to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of Fr. Leo John D’Souza. Fr. Benedict Minj, the parish priest of Telco welcomed all the guests. The celebration began with the cutting of Jubilee cake.

The following day on 5th of May, 2013 the thanks giving Eucharistic celebration was held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Telco with all the parishioners and the invited guests of the town. Fr. Leo was the main celebrant and along with him 10 priests concelebrated at the altar. On the auspicious occasion special prayers were offered for Fr. Leo and thanked God for the gift of life and his priesthood for the service of His people.

PRIESTLY ORDINATION
Fr. Alwin C.V. was Ordained to the Sacred Order of Priesthood by His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Francis Kallarakkal, the Archibishop of Verapoly on the 8th May, 2013, at Amalolbhava Matha Church, Valluvally in Kerala.
Fr. C.R.Prabhu, Vicar General represented the diocese of Jamshedpur along with Frs. Pradeep Marandi, Jilson T.L., Junas Purty, Johny Vithayathil, Leo John D’Souza, Paul, S.J. and Edwin Coelho other from the diocese. We thank God for the gift of new Priest and congratulate him whole heartedly!

CONFIRMATION
9th May, 2013 was a memorable day for 44 boys and girls of Christ the Church, CKP who received the Sacrament of Confirmation by Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. In St. John De Brito Church, Gomoh and Infant Jesus Chruch, Sonari also a good number of boys and girls received the Confirmation and First communion on 12th and 19th May, 2013 respectively. The Solemn liturgy was very devotional and the Church was filled with the faithful.

After the Mass the parishioners welcomed and thanked the bishop by giving a bouquet of flowers. The Confirmation certificate was given to all the boys and girls who received the Sacrament. Congratulations to the parish priests and their team!

HO AND SANTHAL LANGUAGE CLASS
15 days of intensive language classes were organized for the Seminarians. The two language courses organized were Ho and Santali. While Fr. John Mundu took up the challenge to teach the Seminarians Ho language, Fr. Manu Horo took up Santali. The fathers efficiently taught the students who can read, write and understand the language. We congratulate and wish them all the best in their formation.

KUMARDUBI: LOYOLA SCHOOL
Loyola, yet again celebrates a 100% result in the ICSE & ISC exam of 2013.  There was a neck to neck competition among three who scored 94% each with a difference of only 0.1% and .02%. However, the Topper for ICSE 2013 is Rohit Kr. Mahato (94.02%). In the ISC 2013 – Priya Jhunjhunwala  topped in the Science section with 89.25% and Rabindra Agarwal & Rishi Mittal topped the Commerce section with 90% each.

May day was celebrated during the Assembly on 1st May. All the non-teaching staff were given gifts & bouquets. A short programme was also arranged.

The Junior section (Classes Nursery to IV) had Group Recitation on 25th April. A good fight was put up by all the groups and the programme was quite entertaining.

The classes upto Std.V had to be suspended from 6th May due to extreme heat. The school has been closed for summer vacation from 10th May. That day we bid goodbye to Mrs. Selvi Raj , who served Loyola for 15 years. Good wishes to her & her family. (Rita Sen)

ST. XAVIER’S ENGLISH SCHOOL, CHAKRADHARPUR
The second set of the intra class competitions were held on the 27th of April and the students took active part.  The competitions for the classes were as follows, LKG and UKG had observation of Articles,  class I to VI had singing competition and classes VII to X had an essay writing competition. The month of May began with initial feel of summer, 1st of May was celebrated as workers day , the students honored the workers by singing a welcome song, speech and a dance cum skit, Fr. Vernon D’Souza honored them by giving them  gifts of appreciation. The CISCE New Delhi board has invited the students of our school to take part   in the Elocution and Debate competition. Two of our students Akansha Kejriwal and Tazyeen  Arifa will be going to represent the school,  we  wish them all the best. The first unit Test began on 8th of May and finished on 15th of May. As the methods of the teaching are developing day by day and every teacher wants to do his/her job in a better way, we are very thankful to our Principal Fr. Vernon D’Souza who is cooperating and letting us go forward in an advanced way of teaching with Digital Board, it is going to be beneficial for the students and also the teachers. The teachers are going to undergo a training of how to operate and conduct Digital classes. There will be CC TV Cameras installed in each class where Digital Board is installed. It’s a privilege to have these advanced facilities. St. Xavier’s English School is the first school in Chakradharpur to have these facilities.

Finally our second set of holidays has begun; but there are extra co- curricular activities conducted, like Karate, football, cricket and band by the respective teachers. The St. Xavier’s Family wishes everyone happy holidays. School will be reopening on 17th June 2013. “CELEBRATION TIME” CISCE result is out, Congratulations to all the students for securing good percentage. Best of Luck for their bright future.

ST. MARY’S ENGLISH HIGH SCHOOL
On the 19th April 2013, was the black and mourning day for every teacher and students of the school when the day began with the shocking news of the sudden death of the support staff Mr. Karu Hansda. He was working at Junior Block for last 20 years, today every one misses him at school. May his “Soul rest in Peace”. On 1st may the workers day was celebrated. The students and teachers prepared a beautiful prayer service in honor of the repose soul of Mr. Karu. On 3rd of May 2013, the school gave farewell to Mrs. Kasturi George. The Management, Principal, Staff and the students appreciated and acknowledged her 26 years of service to St. Mary’s family. On 4th of May the school closed for summer vacation. From 15th to 16th of May 2013 a summer camp was organized in the school to train the students in basket ball, hand ball, NCC and music. Along with the camp, the students of STD X to XII had special classes. Thanks to Fr. David Vincent the Principal of the school for taking extra care to encourage the students to participate in co-curricular activities along with their studies.

ST.ROBERT’S HIGH SCHOOL-PARSUDIH
Wednesday, 1st May 2013 was a wonderful and a blessed Day for St. Robert’s School family. It was on this day a long awaited dream became true. A well-furnished new Library Wing and a well-established Computer Lab was blessed & inaugurated by Bishop Filix Toppo, S.J.

At the same moment a new Toilet block for both students and staff was inaugurated by Rev.Fr.C.R. Prabhu, Vicar General. All the guests were welcomed received with traditional dance by the school children. A short cultural programme was staged to entertain the guests. On his address Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J., wished students to have a wonderful bright future.

St. Robert’s school is proud to see the marvelous matric result with 100%. Out of 123 students 122 got first division, 1 second division and 75 Distinction. Congratulations to Fr. Johny.P.D, the principal and his team! (Miss. Reena Kujur & Mr.Anmol Guria)

FR. CYRIL FERNANDES CELEBRATES HIS SILEVER JUBILEE
Fr. Cyril Fernandes, the Sacerdotal Silver Jubilarian, Came to Jamshedpur on May 14, 2013 with eight parishioners from Fort-Wayne, Indiana, USA. On the following day they went to St. Xavier’s English School Chaibasa, where the school felicitated him with colouful cultural programs. Fr. Cyril was acclaimed as the “Catalyst of Change”, as he is founding father of the school. In the evening there was a Jubilee Mass in the Cathedral in which a big number of priests and religious Sisters participated. Fr. Cyril and the American guests were welcomed and felicitated during the dinner after the mass in the Welfare Centre Hall. On the following day the American guests went to Ranchi to meet H.E. Cardinal Telesphore P. Toppo. All the American guests went to Mangalore with Fr. David Vincent to celebrate Fr. Cyril’s jubilee at the home parish. Fr. Cyril celebrated his Sacerdotal Silver Jubilee together with his parent’s wedding golden jubilee on May 23, 2013. Besides a big number of priests, archbishop of Patna, William D’Souza, S.J. and Bishop of Jamshedpur, Felix Toppo, S.J. concelebrated with Fr. Cyril. All the programs were organized in a grand scale. Congrats to Fr. Cyril and his dear ones.

DIVBYA BHARATI, CHAIBASA
Catechists’ & Lay Leaders’ Training program at Divya Bharati, Chaibasa from 15th May to 17th May, 2013 on “the Role of Laity in the Church and world.” 30 participants from different parishes  of the Diocese of Jamshedpur.  Frs Edwin Coelo, Kishore Lugun and Cyril Tigga were the resource persons.

NOAMUNDI: ST. MARY’S CHURCH
The declaration of St. Mary’s quasi parish, Noamundi into a full fledged parish byBishop Felix Toppo, S.J. is the ample proof that the Church in the diocese of Jamshedpur is growing faith and number. This great event took place during the Holy Mass on 7th April, 2013 in the presence of Fr. Jerome TOR, Provincial Superior of the Congregation and the faithful of Noamundi.

Fr. Prabhu, V.G. of Jamshedpur diocese, along with some priests and parishioners from neighboring parishes also witnessed this event. To add colour to the day there were cultural programmes. On this occasion the newly elected members of catholic sabha and mahila sangh were introduced. At the end of the programme all present shared a delicious meal. Congratulation to Fr. Abhay Tigga, the first parish priest and the First parishioners of Noamundi!

SENATE OF PRIESTS’ MEETING
The new members of the Senate of Priests had a meeting on 09th April, 2013 at Bishop’s House, Golmuri. The meeting began at 9.30 a.m., with a short prayer. The meeting was chaired by Most Rev. Felix Toppo, SJ. The participants actively participated in the discussions and deliberations about the various issues for the development of the Diocese. The meeting came to an end at about 12.30 p.m. with a short prayer.

ROBBERY IN PDDM PRARTHANALAYA, BARIDIH
On 10th April, 2013 some thieves broke opened the back door of PDDM Convent at Baridih. It was a shocking incident for PDDM Sisters as they found their house back door broke opened. To their good luck the thieves did not carry the things of the house but took away some amount of money that they found. Hearing the news Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J., Fr. C.R. Prabhu and Eugene Ekka rushed to the spot to help the Sisters.

Sr. Rita, PDDM the Superior of the house gave the First Report of the incident to the Sidgora police station asking the police to consider the seriousness of the incident and give protection to the Sisters. Police are investigating.

ST. MARY'S ENGLISH HIGH SCHOOL
The months of March-April was a very hectic time for the School with Board Exams, Admission, and Interviews etc. Inspite of all these Fr. David the Principal of the school had enough time to meet the parents, teachers and the students of the school. The new academic year, began on 25th March. On 5th April, professor Mrs. Monica Uppal from Loyola B.ed college, Telco addressed the guardians parents of Std IX students and gave a lot of inputs with regard to career guidance. 10th April New session started for L.K.G, STD X & XI. The students are excited to come to the school.

On 13th April was the another memorable day for St. Mary’s school family as the long awaited dream was fulfilled when M.K Nerurkar M.D Tata steel laid the foundation stone for the multipurpose hall. Thanks to Fr. David, the principal of the school for his tireless effort and hard work to fulfill this dream into reality.

PRATIKSHA, SUNDERNAGAR
Having experienced the goodness and love of the Lord throughout this academic year, Regional Propaedeutic Seminary Pratiksha celebrated its graduation day on 10th April, 2013. On this auspicious occasion many priests and Sisters of the town joined them in thanking and praising the Lord at Eucharistic celebration which was presided over by Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. the Patron of Propaedeutic Seminary. Prayers were offered very specially for all the seminarians who spent a year discerning their vocations through vigorous training. Congratulation to Frs. Oscar Beck, Casmir Vas and All the best to Brothers!

CONGRATULATION FRS. SAMEER AND NESTOR
Diocese of Jamshedpur is blessed with 2 more Priests, Frs. Sameer Soreng and Nestor Soreng who were Ordained to the Sacred Order of Priesthood on the 14th April, 2013 at Samtoli Cathedral by Most Rev. Vincent Barwa,  Bishop of Simdega.

Fr. C.R.Prabhu, Vicar General represented the diocese of Jamshedpur along with 18 priests, Sisters and many faithful from the diocese.  The ordination ceremony began at 06:30 am. colored with traditional tribal dances and singing. We thank God for these new Priests and congratulate them whole heartedly!
ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH, DHANBAD
14th April, 2013 was a memorable day for 103 boys and girls of St. Anothony’s Church, Dhanbad who received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Along with Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. Fr. Amatus Kujur, the parish priest, Frs. Norbert Kindo and Fr. James Surin were present at the Altar. The Solemn Mass began at 7:00 am with beautiful entrance dance by Mahila Sangh. The Church was filled with the faithful.

After the Mass the parishioners welcomed and thanked the bishop by giving a bouquet of flowers and a shawl. The Confirmation certificate was given to all the boys and girls who received the Sacrament. At the end of the programme all shared the snacks and tea. Congratulation to Fr. Amatus Kujur, the parish priest and dean of Dhanbad deanery!

ST. BARBARA CHURCH,  MOSABONI: BLESSING AND DEDICATION
The long awaited dream of the faithful of Mosaboni was realized when the newly built Church was inaugurated by Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. on 20th April, 2013. It is dedicated to “St. Barbara”. The faithful gave the bishop a traditional welcome by receiving him at the main entrance. Then the bishop was led to the newly built Church by the faithful. The inaugural ceremonies began at 09:30 am by Mangala Aarati followed by cutting the ribbon at the entrance door and blessing of the Church by Bishop Felix in the presence of  a big number of faithful and 25 priests. The liturgy was devotional with beautiful singing.

A short entertainment programme after the inaugural Mass cheered all who came. It was also an occasion to honour the former parish priests who initiated the work of building the Church. At the end of the programme all shared a delicious meal prepared by the faithful of Mosaboni. Congratulations to Fr. A. Alphonse and parishioners of Mosaboni!

GOLMURI: ST. JOSEPH’S CATHEDRAL
On 21st April, 2013, St. Joseph’s Cathedral was filled with joy and happiness as 95 boys and girls received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J was the main celebrant. A large number of faithful participated in the Mass to pray and to wish their children the very best in their faith journey. Congratulations to Fr. Camille Hembrom and his parish team! 

MERCY CONVENT (SCJM): HOUSE FEAST
The Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary (SCJM), Baridih celebrated their House Feast on 21st April, 2013, thanking the Lord, the Good Shepherd at the Eucharistic Celebration. Bishop Felix Toppo, S.J. was the main celebrant. Fr. C.R.Prabhu, V.G., congratulating and thanking the Sisters said in his homily that through our baptism all of us are to share the work of Good Shepherd in the community. The feasting reached to its climax by sharing the family meal.

EASTER PEACE RALLY

On the 01st April, 2013, Jamshedpur city witnessed a Easter Peace Rally, which was organized under the banner of Christians of Jamshedpur. Through this rally the Christians of Jamshedpur tried to communicate to the people about the Peace and joy that the Risen Lord offers. Most Rev. Felix Toppo, SJ and pastors from other denominations addressed the people gathered for the rally at Loyola School ground and communicated the Message of Peace which Easter offers.

KUMARDUBI:LOYOLA SCHOOL, TALDANGA PREPARED FOR THE WORLD
23rd March, 2013 marked the Graduation Ceremony for the ISC 2013 batch. It was a day filled with joy. The outgoing students for the last time sang the School Song and lit their candles from the flame held by their respective class teachers. We believe that this flame will illuminate their lives always.

The Chief Guest for the evening was Rev.Fr.George Fernandez, Director – De Nobili Schools.
The Chief Guest gave a very inspiring message. He said, “Make your GOAL to transform the World, but first transform yourself.” This is true Education. Fr. Edward, our Principal quoted Shiv Khera- “I don’t want your Honours, I want Honour.” His message to the Graduates was ‘Live with Honour and Success will come to you.’ All the students of the out-going batch were given a token in remembrance of their school life.  The toppers of the Science and Commerce sections were awarded Certificates for Academic Excellence. The students with 100% attendance were also awarded.

Parents, Guests, teachers, students had refreshment and spent some time together. Finally it was time to bid adieu. (Rita Sen)

ST. XAVIER’S ENGLISH SCHOOL, CHAIBASA
The school remained closed from 27th March till 1st April on account of Holi and the Holy Week.

On 3rd April, we had ‘left and Right Handwriting’ competitions for classes I to X. It is a very effective exercise to trigger both parts of our brain. It is fun to do and it has far -reaching consequences as a child can perform more efficiently with both sides of his brain activated.

There was an orientation program for the teachers on 5th and 6th April. Our resource person was Fr. Ajit Xess, the Principal of St. Xavier’s School, Doranda. He spoke about how a happy teacher can influence the life of a child. He also spoke on various topics, i.e. positive climate in the classroom, all round development of an individual, etc.

Classes for LKG started on 8th April. It was a joy to see them entering the school for the first time, which is a door to the world of infinite knowledge.

Parents’ – Teachers’ Meet started on 8th April and continued till 12th April. Different classes had their Parents’- Teachers’ Meet on different days. Various points related to syllabus were discussed. Parents were given information about the new marking-scheme, dance & music classes, karate classes etc.  

The school mourns the loss of one of our most esteemed benefactors Late Ashok Kumar Jain, whose untimely demise on 12th April is a severe blow to the whole mankind. Special prayer was conducted on 13th April for his eternal repose.

Remedial classes for the weak students started on 15th April. We have some very talented students who are very dextrous in playing with words. To allow them to show their linguistic skills, we had a story writing competition on 17th April for the students of std VI to VIII. It was compulsory for everyone to participate and the students’ response was very good.

DIVYA BHARATI, CHAIBASA
Divya Bharati is organizing three days training Programe for the Catechists. All the parish priests are requested to encourage their lay leaders to attend the training programme. Please give the number of participants to Divya Bharati Director by 14th May, 2013.
